The Best-Rated Antivirus Programs

Computers have become such an indispensable and valuable part of our everyday experiences that we cannot seem to live without them. From logging into our social media accounts to conducting our business transactions, computers make such tasks possible. With this rapid pace of growth, however, comes the ever-increasing threat that malicious software such as viruses poses to unwary computer users. They have reached levels of sophistication unheard of before, so much that more efforts are spent to counter them. Fortunately for us, there are software manufacturers who are always working on giving us antivirus programs of better quality and service, and have consistently ranked on the top of the best antivirus reviews. Presented below is a short list of the top-ranked antivirus software available today.
The Vipre Antivirus is a relative newcomer in the antivirus category and it has not garnered the general following that is being enjoyed by the other more established antivirus programs. Nevertheless, it has proven to be as capable of eliminating virus infections. It handles itself well as it goes through the three general tasks of antivirus protection, namely, deterrence, discovery, and removal. It will not cause your computer to bog down. However, it may take you some effort to install it in your computer but once you have completed the process, just reboot your PC and you're good to go.
The BitDefender Antivirus Pro, meanwhile, features remote network administration and interception of pre-determined user information. It is easy to use and offers you beginner, medium-level, and professional-grade utilities in its antivirus arsenal. It runs discreetly as you work with your computer and it leaves PC processes untouched. These features have enabled BitDefender to be included in the best antivirus reviews for last year.
The McAfee Antivirus is well-known as one of the first antivirus programs to be offered commercially. Throughout the years, the company that makes it has strived to offer the best that can be found in antivirus software. It is so fast that when it detects viruses, it works to intercept them to within a millionth part of a second. It is 8 times quicker than its previous incarnation and it gives you more security from dangerous Internet sites than other comparable antivirus software. Despite it being a little sluggish compared to other competing antivirus programs, it is still included in the best antivirus reviews.

Top Antivirus Software

As the digital age progresses, computers become more efficient and − especially for businesses − mandatory.

However, with the growth of technology comes the proliferation of viruses, each more sinister and harmful than the last, ready to manipulate and destroy every piece of information it could access.

Luckily, software companies are on their guard against these viruses, and they have improved their services over the years. For this year, here is a list of the best antivirus software you can find on the market:

1. Vipre Antivirus is one of the newest antivirus software on the market, so it's not yet quite as popular as, say, McAfee, Kaspersky, or Avast. Nonetheless, it can still kick some virus behind and get the job done. It fared well in the three main areas of antivirus protection: prevention, detection, and removal. It does not slow down your computer, and while it is not the easiest software to install, its installation process is by no means difficult either − it just requires a restart.
2. BitDefender Antivirus Pro offers remote management of networks and also blocks transmission of user-defined data. Its user-friendly interface displays the tools most used by the user. It also gives you a choice to display basic, intermediate, or expert antivirus tools. It scans in the background, all the while leaving your computer's performance unaffected. Today, BitDefender remains one of the most recommended programs to use.
3. McAfee Antivirus is one of the world's first computer antivirus software. Being one of the industry's pioneers, McAfee has gained enough experience to offer superbly advanced features and technology: It blocks computer viruses within milliseconds. It is 8 times faster than its previous versions. It also provides better protection from malicious Web sites compared to other programs.
McAfee's main disadvantage is that it is a little slower than other software. Nonetheless, McAfee is still one of the best antivirus programs that users can buy.

4. Norton Antivirus is created by another antivirus pioneer. This software provides a wide range of protection and features that work on all angles. Regular updates on the software ensure that your computer is always closely protected. Suspicious behavior is monitored using Norton's SONIC 3 behavioral protection feature.

5. Avast Pro Antivirus. You can't go wrong with this award-winning antivirus software. It has a good reputation and an enviable track record for its efficient protection against malware and viruses. Its built-in protection against trojans, spyware and other threats makes it an ideal software for most users.

6. Kaspersky Antivirus is one of the most popular antivirus software today. The program does not just protect users from common threats such as trojans, worms and spyware, but it also shields your computer from new and emerging threats that other antivirus programs may not yet detect. This update has an easy-access desktop gadget that enables you to use the software in an instant. The program also has the ability to scan Web sites and e-mails for malicious software.

Types of Antivirus Software

If your computer runs normally, it is a sign that it is working properly. If however, your computer starts to function in a way that it is far from normal, consider that as a warning sign that your computer is about to suffer from a viral attack. Computer viruses and trojans can have a serious impact on your computer such as deleting your hard drive and even taking control of your computer. With sufficient and adequate antivirus protection, you can counter the effects of an unwanted attack.
There are good free antivirus programs, however the only drawback is that it consumes a huge amount of memory. If installed on a laptop, there is a chance that this program will cause the laptop to hang. A desktop computer carries more memory than a laptop, therefore it may withstand the free antivirus software's memory consumption. This is what happened in my case. As my commercial antivirus program expired, I was left with the dilemma of protecting my computer. As I searched for a good antivirus, I finally selected one which protects against most viruses and at the same time consumes the least amount of memory. Best of all, it's free.
As compared to free antivirus programs, commercial antivirus software may be installed on a laptop or desktop without any unwanted effects. There are those programs whose software requires downloading from its main site. Paid software has some added features such as enhanced antivirus protection and firewall activation, as well as detecting unauthorized devices connecting to or attempting to connect to the protected network. Because of the nature of an open and public network, financial statements are never transacted under any circumstances. Phishing and other malicious software can find its way from a single source computer to multiple targets on a public network.
An employer who has several computers interconnected under a single network encounters certain benefits and risks regarding virus protection in the workplace. First, he must decide on whether to use free or commercial software. Employers who are constrained by budget limits aim for free antivirus software, but those who are willing to invest in a comprehensive program will get his return in the long run. Once the employer has decided on which software he will use, he has to install safety nets within each and every computer, such that every unit will access only what is authorized and no more. Employees who need to access such files by reason of their duties or functions must obtain the consent of their employer, and must take care of such files. If any important file has been ruined or the entire drive is infected with a virus through no fault of the employee, they must notify the employer immediately.

McAfee Personal Firewall

Why let your computer stay raw and unprotected when McAfee Personal Firewall is here to help you. McAfee Personal Firewall, which was first introduced in 2005 to McAfee security suites citing the growing importance of keeping safe online, is a personal firewall designed to check and control the incoming & outgoing traffic to and from a computer and keep unauthorized users from connecting to it. The tool has improved security levels, advanced security features that stand it apart from other firewall programs, and close integration with third-party applications to make sure non-disruptive functioning in a computer.
In this post, I am going to discuss how McAfee Personal Firewall works to protect users from online attacks and intrusions that sneak in their computers without their permissions. Let me tell you first that McAfee® Personal Firewall no longer comes as a standalone program. It now comes integrated with McAfee Total Protection, Internet Security, and Virus scan Plus McAfee security suites.
How McAfee Personal Firewall works:
The firewall has 6 security levels that pose as an unbeatable security barrier between your computer and the Internet. Whatever comes in and whatever goes out using your Internet connection is monitored and controlled to provide maximum protection and blockage against unauthorized intrusion and several types of threats and infections like viruses, spyware, bots, worms, and rootkits etc.
Below are the six levels that McAfee® Personal Firewall has:
Lockdown - This feature blocks all types of connections including yours that try to connect to your computer. It's like un-plugging the network cable to completely disconnect from the Internet connection.
Stealth - This feature blocks all those connections for which you didn't configure a rule for. So if a connection, which you haven't recognized as valid will not be able to connect to your network. If you want to allow a connection, you will have to let it be recognized first by the McAfee firewall by creating a rule.
Open - This feature allows you to make connection to all connection types. This is like disabling the firewall and making your network exposed to all the connections.
Tight - This feature allows one-time access to users for an application. If you want to grant further access to other users, you will need to configure it manually.
Standard - With this feature, you can grant other users access to multiple applications. You will again have to configure it manually if you want to continue granting access.
Trusting/automatic - This feature allows you to keep up little or no action at all to allow other connections to connect to your computer.
So, waiting is not an option if you want to keep your computer and Internet connection safe. Install a McAfee security suite with McAfee® Personal Firewall today and stay protected forever.

How to Uninstall Mcafee Security Center

McAfee Security Center and other security programs such as Norton are very difficult to remove completely from computers. Even if you have uninstalled it from your computer, it's components remain in the installation folders.
What is worse, when you try to install latest version of Mcafee or other antivirus in your computer, it says you haven't uninstalled the Mcafee and can not install other programs. That really drives people mad.
How can we completely get rid of it? I researched and found a very easy way which can remove Mcafee completely. Before I tell you how to remove it, I will explain the reason of this error. When you uninstall Mcafee, some keys of Mcafee still remain in registry. Or some registry keys are damaged because of some illegal operations from Mcafee. Those are the factors which cause the problem.
So we not only need to uninstall it, but also remove those keys from your registry and fix other registry keys. Now let me tell you how to remove Mcafee Security Center manually.
1. Go to Control Panel and uninstall Mcafee Security Center. If you can not uninstall it in the Control Panel, do the following the steps.
2. Restart the computer and press F8. You will enter Safe Mode. Find the location of the Mcafee and delete the folder completely! Keep in mind that you need to remove all the files in that folder.
3. Click Start-Run and enter "regedit" to open Registry Editor. Search [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-SOFTWARE-Microsoft-windows-CurrentVersion-Uninstall] for the icon of Mcafee.
4. Right-click the icon and click "Delete". Then delete the key and all the subkeys under the icon. Restart the computer.
This method works generally. After you complete the steps above, you need to fix other damaged registry keys and optimize your computer. If you still can not remove it, you can find a uninstall software to help you.
