Webroot Window Washer is one of the most popular privacy control software applications. The purpose of privacy control software is to clean, wipe, and eliminate internet and operating system history such as address bar history, program history, cookies, cache, pictures, videos, and more. I put Window Washer to the test to see how well it stacked up against other competitive market products such as Cyberscrub, Evidence Eliminator, and Webwasher. I was surprised as to what the end results were. Below are my findings:
Usability & Safety Rating: A
WebRoot Window Washer is one of the easiest programs to install and use. The newest version 6.5 has a updated interface that is very user friendly and visually pleasing. Additionally, Has file protection option which is built-in safety features to help prevent you from accidentally removing important files.
Scanning/Cleaning Rating: B
Window Washer has a variety of features such as One Click Shredder, Permanent Bleaching which overwrites files with a random characters to make then unrecoverable, Total Erase that fully erases your hard drive, and free space cleaner. Although this application is feature rich, all of the application's features and actions took longer to implement than other competitive products.
Application Coverage Rating: C+
Window Washer cleans all web browser history and the latest versions of Window's most popular programs such as Microsoft Office, Google Search Toolbar, iTunes, Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Acrobat, email, instant messaging, chat, P2P, image viewers, graphical editors, etc. However, the application doesn't cover a full range of applications without purchasing additional plugins.
Overall Rating: B
Window Washer is a good privacy control software application, but there are better applications out there.
